Inside the camps the Japanese prisoners had to live in barracks which were brutal. The internees had to sleep with as many blankets that were provided. In the winter the temperatures would get below zero. In the summer time it could get up to 115 degrees F.  The bathrooms in the camps they had no privacy.   There was rows of toilets without walls or stall doors and they were only a few feet apart. There were many mess halls in the camps.

The camps were over crowded and provided poor living conditions. Camp Manzanar was located in central California between two small towns, Lone Pine and  Big Pine.  Manzanar was a camp with 10,000 Japanese American prisoners and they were believed to be the enemy.
Manzanar had a football team since they never were able to leave camp they were always he home team. They only played one game because the only team willing to play them was the Big Pine High School football team.   And the Japanese prisoners all felt honored to be able to play the Big Pine high school football team.   Each barrack  had one room and over 8 people lived in each room. When the camps were new the roofs were unfinished and there were knot holes in the ceilings and the walls.  Some camps would get severe dust storms. Manzanar, a camp in CA had a football feild, a baseball feild, and many gardens  which all created a lot of dust and made the living quarters dirty.
